Suresh Garimella is an Indian mechanical engineer and academic administrator.

Education:

Dr Garimella received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley,1989 and M.S. from The Ohio State University, Columbus, 1986 and a bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1985.

Career:

In 1990 he worked as an instructor Mechanical Engineering in University of California, Berkeley. From 1990 to 1999, he worked as an assistant professor and Cray – Research Associate professor in University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. From Aug 1999 till present he has been working in Purdue University in several positions such as associate professor and professor of School of Mechanical Engineering, Associate Vice President for Engagement, Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships Emeritus and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering. And currently he is a professor in the Mechanical Engineering department, University of Vermont and president, University of Vermont.

Awards and Recognition:

  • June 1995 to January 1996 – Honorary Visiting Fellow, The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
  • August 1999 to June 2019 – Director, Cooling Technologies Research Center, a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center.
  • June 2006 to May 2009 – Honorary Guest Professor, Xi’an Jiao Tong University, Xi’an, China.
  • June 2006 to July 2019 – R. Eugene and Susie E. Goodson Chair Professor, Purdue University
  • Aug 2010 to July 2019 – Jefferson Science Fellow, US Department of State
  • Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), 2011
  • August 2011 to July 2015 – Senior Fellow, Energy & Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), US State Department
  • November 2019 till present – Member, National Science Board
  • July 2019 till present – President, University of Vermont
  • Member, National Science Board (NSB), appointed by President Trump for a six-year term to advise the President and Congress on science policy and oversee the National Science Foundation, 2018.
